SPRINGFIELD, IL – Yesterday, the Illinois State Senate passed SB 2960, which would ban small plastic hotel personal care product bottles, by a margin of 42-16. It now moves to the House where it has strong support. In response to this news, Jeff Watters, Vice President, External Affairs at Ocean Conservancy and Illinois native, issued the following statement:

“Decades of Ocean Conservancy data show that single-use plastics are a huge threat to our ocean, and this kind of legislation is exactly what we mean when we say we need upstream solutions to the plastic pollution crisis. Illinois and the Great Lakes are directly connected to our ocean through the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Mississippi River. With tens of millions of visitors coming to Chicago every year, this bill will make a huge impact in reducing single-use plastics. We are glad to see the Illinois General Assembly taking this important step with SB 2960 and hope that other states will follow suit,” said Jeff Watters, Vice President, External Affairs at Ocean Conservancy.
